Try your hand at these recipes

Here you will find some interesting and delightful recipes for sauces, rubs, beans and even cole slaw. So break out the mixing bowl and cook up one of these or mix and match to make your own. They're all fun and tasty.


Classic BBQ Rib Sauce

1 can tomato sauce, 1 can tomato paste, 2 tblspn brown sugar, 2 tblspn vinegar, 2 tblspn olive oil, 3 cloves crushed garlic, 4 tblspn minced onion, 1 tblspn Worcestershire sauce, 1 tspn dry mustard, 1 tspn cayenne - fresh ground to taste

Cook minced onion and garlic in olive oil until onions turn opaque, add remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly and allow to simmer 20 minutes. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

  Basic Kansas City BBQ Seasoning

1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup garlic, 1/3 cup paprika, 1/4 cup seasoned salt, 3/4 cup BBQ spice, 2 tblspn onion salt, 2 tblspn celery salt, 2 tblspn chili powder, 2 tblspn black pepper, 1 tblspn ground ginger, 1 tblspn lemon pepper, 2 tblspn dry mustard, 1/2 tspn thyme, 1/2 tspn cayenne pepper

Sift all ingredients together, store in an airtight container away from sunlight. To use, sprinkle ribs, brisket or chicken as if you were putting on heavy salt and pepper.

Red Pepper Sauce

1 can tomato sauce, 3/4 cup water, 3/4 cup sugar, 8 oz. Tobasco or similar sauce, 1/2 tblspn red pepper flake, 1/2 tblspn cayenne, 3 tblspn lemon juice

Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan, heat on low for 10 minutes.

Sweet & Tangy BBQ Sauce

3 large onions, 6 tblspn vinegar, 6 tblspn brown sugar, 1 tblspn Worcestershire sauce, 3 cups ketchup, salt & cayenne (to taste), 6 tblspn margarine, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 6 tspns mustard, 3 tspns chili powder, 1 1/2 cups water, Tabasco sauce (to taste)

Chop onion - saute' in margarine until lightly colored. Add all other ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes, makes 7 cups


Baked Beans

4 slices bacon, 1 onion - chopped, 6 cups cook beans (use your favorite), 1/4 cup molasses, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 tspn garlic, 1/4 tspn black pepper

Cook bacon until crisp, set aside. Saute' onion in same pan until golden, stir in crumbled bacon. Mix all remaining ingredients, bake uncovered at 325 degrees for about 45 minutes.



Carolina Cole Slaw

2 cups cabbage - shredded, 2 tblspns onions - minced, 2 tblspns white vinegar, 1 1/2 tblspn mayonnaise, 2 tspn sugar, 1/4 tspn salt, freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Mix all ingredients well.

Good as a side dish or on pulled pork sandwiches.
